Q. What is structured cabling? A. It is a flexible cabling scheme, which allows for instant reconfiguration of voice and data equipment. There is a standards process known as Category 5, which is the performance criteria that cabling schemes have to meet. Q. Who needs it? A. Any business that currently has separate cabling for telephone systems and computers, especially if you are planning to invest in the latest voice and data systems now or in the near future. Q. How will it benefit my business? A. The reconfiguration is done through patch panel connections which avoids the disruption and cost of calling in external contractors to alter your existing fixed wiring. Through a standard plug it is possible to deliver voice, data or video signals to any desk/workstation.
